Characterization of Gasoline-Diesel RCCI Engine Unrestricted Emissions
Abstract
during the combustion. In the RCCI combustion mode, however, carbon monoxide (CO) and hydrocarbon (HC) emissions are much higher. The experimental investigation of unregulated emissions from the gasoline-diesel RCCI engine is presented in this paper. In this paper, the influence of injection timing of diesel and port fuel injected gasoline mass on the saturated and unsaturated hydrocarbons, and formaldehyde emission has been investigated. A one-cylinder naturally aspirated diesel engine was
used for the RCCI combustion. The engine's intake manifold was adjusted, and a solenoid injector was inserted after sufficient hardware modifications for pumping gasoline into the intake manifold to
achieve the RCCI combustion mode. The port fuel gasoline injection and direct diesel injection events were controlled by using a development ECU. The results indicate the saturated, as well as unsaturated
hydrocarbon emissions increase with advanced diesel injection timing and port fuel, and injected mass.
