Techniques of Fiber Bragg Grating Sensor and Their Application

Akish Maheshwari

Abstract

As a novel sensor, fiber Bragg gratings (FBGs) have broad applicability by their excellent characteristics such as compactness, large multiplexing capacity, and corrosion resistance. However, the ability to acquire high-frequency signals is still limited in traditional demodulation technology. In this paper, the sensing principle of FBG sensors was briefly introduced first. Then, we reviewed the status of research and applications of FBG sensors. Aiming at the practical applications in infrastructures, the techniques of FBG encapsulation techniques are developed. And their applications in the structural health monitoring of bridges are conducted. Finally, we analyzed the problems encountered in engineering applications and gave a general review on the development of interrogation methods of FBG sensor.
