CFD and Static Structural Analysis of Pelton Turbine

Mohammad Anas Ansari

Abstract

India is a country with huge population and variety of geographical locations. It has many places where high altitude mountains are present and have potential to generate the electricity through Hydro power plants. For high head power projects Pelton turbine is the first choice for the alternators. As the Efficiency is better in the above turbine as the research and the previous study has shown. The material by which the turbine is constructed matters a lot in achieving speed as well as efficiency of the entire system
Pelton turbine is used for high- head packages in the range 500-2000 meters. The output it produces about 10-three hundred MW. It includes one to six nozzles that may carry out based upon one or more nozzles. The energy available at inlet of rotary engine is most powerful kinetic power. This report addresses the design analysis and performance analysis of a Pelton turbine. Design part is performed via using SolidWorks powered by Dassault Systemes software program. After layout part completes evaluation is carried out by using ANSYS Workbench 14.0 fluent. In ANSYS FLUENT the analysis is accomplished on three exceptional Pelton turbine designs. After evaluation part is finished evaluating the solution in the ANSYS FLUENT undergoing static structural analysis based on the efficient Pelton turbine bucket model and changing the material properties for the efficient Pelton turbine by undergoing analysis using three different types of materials and finally concluding about which material is best to model Pelton turbine
