Modeling, Simulation and Analysis of FGM AlSiC Composite by Centrifugal Casting Process

Chethan Kumar, R. Kumar

Abstract

Simulation is the imitation of the operation of real-world process or system which are impossible difficult and impractical, through modeling and simulation various results can be predicted without performing the actual experiments. The main objective of the project is to model and analysis the composite material through ANSYS-FEA software package. The Functionally graded material composite is selected for the simulation and which is fabricated through a specially designed centrifugal casting machine with pure Aluminum as matrix and Sic (30 microns) as reinforcement material in 5, 10 and 15 vol % metal concentration. Finite Element Method (FEM) is used to simulate the mechanical test to identify the occurrence of stress distribution and deformation etc. the validation of the mechanical results with analytical results is carried out to know the percentage of the associated error. Statistical tools such as correlation and regression are used to predict unknown properties (outputs) by varying input variables. In the present work the simulation of composite material was carried out in ANSYS software to identify the stress distribution and deformation etc. Regression model was developed for the test results and the experimental results were good agreement with the analytical results.
