Educational Research on the Bonding Techniques for Polymer Microfluidic Devices

Subhadeep Mukhopadhyay

Abstract

Microfluidics is a branch of fluid mechanics from the point of view of miniaturization by using different microfabrication techniques. Thermoplastic polymers are suitable materials to fabricate the microfluidic devices. Bonding is an essential phase in fabrication of microfluidic devices. Indirect bonding and direct bonding are the two categories of sealing methods in microfluidic devices to achieve the leakage-free microfluidic flow. This educational research-review will be useful as study material for the proposed elective-course on microfluidics (M.Tech, Theory) in the Department of Mechanical Engineering of the National Institute of Technology Arunachal Pradesh, India.
