Analyzing SPM and XPM Non-linear Effects in Optical Communication System using OptiSystem

Mukesh Bhardwaj

Abstract

A tremendous growth in the optical fiber communication system was observed in recent years due to fast increase in bit rate and bandwidth of the fiber. This increase mainly occurred due to development of different multiplexing techniques like WDM and DWDM which has totally changed the optical communication technique. But non-linearity effects in optical fiber at high power level have arisen with this development. Here, in this paper non-linear effects like Self Phase Modulation (SPM), Cross Phase Modulation (XPM) and Four Wave Mixing (FWM) are studied and simulation results have been included.

Keywords: Optical fiber communication system, OptiSystem software, WDM, DWDM, SPM.
